Matthew's Big Boy Room

matthews big boy room

Matthew will be one in June but I've been thinking about his big boy room for months now! The theme I'm leaning towards is "woodsy." It's pretty inspired by his dad who loves adventures, exploring and just all things nature. While I'm dreaming of bedroom remodels, Eugene is dreaming of taking Matthew fishing and camping ;)

We're repainting 99% of the house in Spring so when we do that Matthew's room will be painted a light gray. He already has light blue curtains, the moose, basket and a similar adventure sign so we're half way there. I also got him a wooden M monogram from Hobby Lobby as well as a burlap bulletin board. I love Target's Pillowfort line. They have so many fun themes as well as good basics like that rug and striped comforter set. Bedding will have to wait while Matthew is still in the crib but trust me I will get him out of it as fast as I can. Sounds crazy but that boy is just not a fan of his crib.

I like blogging about this stuff because it gives me a place to put it all in one spot.
My husband is no longer interested in hearing about my remodeling plans haha at least Matthew doesn't mind listening ;)

Thursday Confessions

This week I confess...

target wish list

My husband and I set up a budget (his idea) and it's actually going really well. It made me realize of how much more I was actually spending than I thought on things like groceries and "super necessary" Target runs. To limit myself I've been avoiding Target and getting our food from a grocery store, you know, where they just sell food... But ugh I miss it so much! Darn you addictive bullseye! I've been looking (but not touching!) online and above are the things I'm missing out on not wasting money on.

Juliana's party decorations are still up from her birthday two weeks ago. My excuse is I'm enjoying all the pink...

I love gloomy weather. Overcast skies, rain, wind. I would be a fine resident of the pacific northwest or England. I know everyone is super psyched for summer but I'm pretty sure too much direct sunlight gives me an instant headache so I'm kind of dreading it. I only want warmer weather for the sake of my kids who have been cooped up more this winter than I care to admit.

Speaking of summer-I'm so not ready to put away my Ugg boots when the time comes. They're not actually Ugg's but Bearpaw brand from Macy's.  Many people think they're a fashion no-no but I have no shame, I love wearing them! They're comfy and warm and hide my calves haha needless to say they are my #1 choice for footwear.

My husband would make a better stay at home parent than I currently am. He was the one that transitioned both girls to sleep in the crib after the first months of co-sleeping with them, transitioned Juliana to her big girl bed and yesterday while I was at my bible study he put the girls to bed without sitting in the room with them (they share) like we have been for the past few months. He said he just told them they need to sleep and left the room. They didn't cry or get up. And when I came home they were sleeping and the house was clean. Yes, he's a keeper.

our room

with the help of pinterest i'm slowly figuring out what i like when it comes to home decor. my style is traditional, simple and clean. i don't like clutter but just a few pretty decorative items like a candle or flowers is a must. i put together a room inspiration board and so far i've acquired half of what i think will make our master bedroom complete.
  • candle holder (target during christmas)
  • large black mirror (tjmaxx on clearance)
  • white bedding (target)
  • nightstand (ikea. we have the 2 drawer white hemnes)
  • dresser (ikea hemnes-exactly as pictured)

room

here is a small look into our current room situation. we are in need of a headboard! we're also currently renting so in the future our walls will be grey. don't worry they're not as orange in real life. they're more beige/tan.

so far it looks like the theme is white, navy, gray with black accents. i was leaning towards more neutrals like beige (think burlap pillows) but i think this way it's not too girly for the hubs ;)

p.s. that lamp is awesome! :)

IKEA purchases (five on friday)

ikea purchases

ikea purchases featuring an acrylic throw

we live really close to IKEA which is good and bad because I go way too often. Like weekly.

I loooooveee home decor and seeing how people decorate their house. I'm one of those people that always needs a home tour when they first come over. Pretty much I'm just a creep. Thank goodness for Pinterest where people share their homes willingly and we can steal their good ideas. and thank you to Ikea for their awesome showroom. Seriously love that place.

1. I love stripes. Especially chunky black and white ones. This throw is super soft and only $20. I honestly don't even know where to put it but I love it so there it is.

2. I found one of these fake green plants (the middle one) in the AS-Is section and got it even though I thought it might look cheesy but the green really brightened up my windowsill and now I'm obsessed with fake potted plants.

3. The reason I went to Ikea in the 1st place was because I saw this lamp on sale in the catalog. It's such a classic design. I've wanted it for ages and now it's mine for just $20 yay! It's easy to assemble and really good quality.

4. This is a wok but I wanted a skillet with higher walls because I'm kind of a messy cook. This will do. $10.

5. A home for my fake potted plant haha :) $4.

Juliana's Gift List (Five on Friday)

Juliana's Gift List

Juliana's Gift List on Polyvore

*not sure why the apostrophe didn't show up...

I thought it would be fun to put together a gift guide of things we got and are planning to get our Juju for Christmas to look back on later. She's a little to young to understand the whole present concept but I think it'll still be awesome to watch her unwrap a new toy or two.

1. Doodle Pro: we love teaching Juju numbers, letters and shapes by writing them and she's a quick learner that girl. This makes it a little more fun than the usual crayon & paper. This toy I'm actually going to wrap for her and save for Christmas

2. IKEA LATT Table Set: I'm most excited for this one because I know she's going to love having her own little table and chairs (the second chair is of course reserved for Lucy once she's older) This sounds weird but Juju loves "lounging" around. She'll tuck herself under her blanket multiple times a day or open a cabinet and just sit there. I plan on painting it white and adding gold stripes to the seats once we assemble it. And by we I mean my husband.

3. H&M Mouse Slippers: I still have to run out and get these or there are cute orange fox ones at Target. Either way Juj is getting slippers. We don't have carpet in our main living area where she spends most of her time so I hope she'll wear these so her tootsies stay warm and they're more fun than socks.

4. Contigo Kids Bottle: I bought this on sale at Target for less than $8 and they're originally like $13. I called it a score and gave it to her right away only because she was sick last week and not really eating or drinking. But she would drink anything from this bottle, including chamomile tea <insert wide eyed emoji> She loves closing it and opening it. Somehow she's always surprised when it pops open and says "Ow!" it's cute :)

5. Ikea Play Tea Set: I have also yet to get this and might wait until her birthday because I don't know if I'll have time to get to Ikea with Christmas being less than a week away but not that it matters for Juju ;) I know she'll love this because she loves pretend feeding her doll babies and real feeding myself and her daddy. She's just a natural care taker :)
